Workbook 1 is the first in the series and uses 43 gestures in the music discipline. Workbook 2 takes an in-depth approach to furthering your skills as a Soundpainter in the music discipline and comprises 83 additional gestures. It is important to have gained a high level of fluency with the gestures in Workbook 1 before advancing to Workbook 2. Future volumes will discuss Soundpainting in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary settings, the use of palettes, the structure of the Soundpainting language, and composing more complex phrases in Soundpainting. Through the series, Thompson clearly outlines how to use Soundpainting. Topics covered in Workbook 1 include an introduction to the structure of the Soundpainting language; how to prepare an ensemble for Soundpainting; and what each gesture means, how to use it, and how to physically sign it.
